CANADIAN BRASS TAKES FLIGHT WITH NEW RECORDING ON CONN-SELMER INSTRUMENTS
Premiere Release on Steinway & Sons Label Features New Conn-Selmer Instruments
Canadian Brass Takes Flight [available January 31, 2012 SRP $17.99] features members of the world’s most famous brass ensemble in their premiere release on the Steinway & Sons record label. Canadian Brass are now exclusive Conn-Selmer artists and perform on 24-karat gold-plated Bach and Conn instruments.
The group has performed in virtually every major concert hall in the world, has more than 200 published arrangements, and has sold well over 2 million albums worldwide. They’ve had a plethora of educational initiatives over the years including work with El Sistema in Venezuela. Canadian Brass has shaped the recent and emerging history of brass performance and, as shown by its new members, has a keen eye on the next generation of professional players.
Chuck Daellenbach of Canadian Brass noted, “We are so excited about the sound of the ensemble on our new instruments. This is the sound we all grew up with: the amazing brass tradition that started right here in America. That, together with a group of players that are international superstars, gave us the idea to record the ‘hits that made the original group famous.”
Canadian Brass truly takes flight with this new album – their first recording with all of the new permanent members of the ensemble – Eric, Chris, Brandon, Achilles (replacing the recently retired founding member, Eugene Watts,) and Chuck. It is also the first recording they have made with their new custom-made gold-plated instruments built by Conn-Selmer. The repertoire features favorite encores, new arrangements, and world premieres.
Having started with a very limited base, Canadian Brass has created their own musical world by transcribing, arranging and commissioning more than 200 works, including critically acclaimed compositions from Michael Kamen, Luther Henderson, Bramwell Tovey, Don Gillis and more. With an extensive worldwide touring schedule, Canadian Brass is an important pioneer in bringing brass music to mass audiences everywhere.
Takes Flight is the first non-piano release on the Steinway label. A new direction – but one that continues to follow the mission of capturing exceptional artists – performing on the finest instruments, in state-of-the art sound quality.
